San Francisco is a major city in California and the centerpiece of the Bay Area, well-known for its liberal community, hilly terrain, Victorian architecture, scenic beauty, summer fog, and great ethnic and cultural diversity. San Francisco is one of the most visited cities in the world and is located on a small seven-by-seven mile square of land at the tip of a peninsula between the San Francisco Bay and the Pacific coast.
Probably the most recognizable landmark in San Francisco and one of the most famous bridges in the world, the Golden Gate Bridge, has been called one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World .Overlooking the Golden Gate is the Presidio, a former military post with beautiful architecture and a very scenic park setting, and the gorgeous Palace of Fine Arts. Within the center of the city, the famous cable cars run up and down the hills of San Francisco between Market Street and Fisherman's Wharff, and over on Russian Hill is the famous stretch of Lombard Street, one of the crookedest streets in America. Then there’s Haight Ashbury, famous for being the home of the Hippie movement, and this once bohemian area is still an eclectic treasure.
Fisherman’s Wharf is a waterfront neighbourhood with Ghirardelli Square and Pier 39, and the ferry launch to Alcatraz Island, as well as a plethora of seafood restaurants and souvenir stores. And Chinatown, the crowded and largest Chinatown outside of Asia next to the stylish laid back 'Little Italy', as well as Telegraph Hill and Coit Tower. Here you will have some awe-inspiring views of Alcatraz and the Pacific Ocean.
San Francisco also provides some great day trips to to Yosemite National Park and the famous Sonoma and Napa Valley wineries, so you’ll have to plenty to see and do around
